    Flood Plain Study goes Forward

On August 22, 2013, the Morrison City Council voted unanimously to contribute $10,000 towards the French Creek flood plain study. This contribution, along with matching funds from the Morrison Area Development Corporation and local property owners will fund a study by Chastain & Associates to challenge FEMA’s map and distinguish between “flood plain” and “flood way” along the French Creek corridor. The MADC believes that “flood plains” and “flood ways” serve a necessary purpose, but we believe they should be based on accurate data and they should be clearly defined. Without this study, land will be inaccurately and unnecessarily restricted.  The fact that the burden of proof rests on the land owner is a regrettable situation, but the fact of the matter is FEMA will not reconsider its map without a completed study. There is no guarantee of success, but the MADC believes it is in our mission to advocate for the completion of this study.
